PLANit Global for Education

What is the platform and how does it work for us?
The platform gives direct, real careers information from local businesses and their employees, connecting businesses to the community. Explorers search through the real business profiles to find careers information, to discover which industry sectors inspire them and to see if the business has any opportunities available.

Businesses upload a profile containing:
  • About us – a description of the business
  • Employee profiles - staff explain job roles and suggest what skills, qualifications and experience are needed to do their job
  • The Gallery - photos of the workplace to put the job roles in better context
  • Plus 4 categories of Opportunities - work experience, apprenticeships, volunteering or jobs. There may be a link to the business’ website recruitment page too.

There is a quiz for guidance if the Explorer has no careers ideas yet.

There are three ways to explore the information which means that all learning styles and personalities can access information in a way that suits them.

Is there any charge?
PLANit Global is FREE for schools and Explorers. We are sustainable because of the support of businesses and charities that display their information on the platform.

What are the three ways to explore?
Our platform caters to the needs of a variety of audiences and gives them different ways to view the platform on devices with internet connection:
  • Careers Infoverse: Displays companies and opportunities in a list format
  • Careers Galaxy: An interactive 3D gaming environment where you can explore the galaxy of industry sectors (PLANits) and their businesses (on a PC or download the app)
  • Careers Orbit: A carousel of the 27 different sectors with highlights that showcase specific opportunities.

All options draw from the same business information ensuring consistency and all platforms can also link traffic to the business’ website.

What are the profiles?
The business and employees’ profiles are there to help Explorers understand the variety of workplaces and employment opportunities in their area. They can also access information from businesses further afield.
Each employee describes their own career path and their own qualifications, plus they can suggest skills and qualifications that they think would be useful for anyone who might aspire to their role. This is a direct voice from an employee to the Explorer and a way for employers to describe the skills and qualifications they desire in their future workforce.

Do you offer any other benefits, like courses?
We have partnered with iDEA, the Duke of York’s Digital Skills programme that helps people of all ages develop digital, enterprise and employability skills through online courses.
To access this free resource, click on the pink iDEA button and find out more about how your students can not only improve their employability chances but also enhance their personal statements in applications to further or higher education.

What is the Career DNA matcher quiz?
Explorers can complete a Career DNA Matcher quiz which matches their qualification and career aspirations with real employees’ profile responses. Explorers take a short questionnaire including discovering their personality type at 16 Personalities. With information from the personality test and their other responses in the quiz, Explorers can see what job roles they would be compatible with, based on matched questionnaire results.

We aim to assist in getting the Right People into the Right Career
  • Search and filter for Work Experience and volunteering places. These opportunities are essential in enabling students and businesses to ‘try before they buy’; a valuable first step before committing to an apprenticeship, degree or employment.
  • Apprenticeships can be explored via both businesses’ profiles and their Opportunities pages plus apprenticeship providers who showcase opportunities.
  • Our platform has been designed for people to gain an understanding of all job roles and learn about local companies within their chosen sectors to help them make great decisions about their future.
  • Explorers learn about how the business works, what it does, what type of job roles it offers and can make informed choices based on information from people doing that role.

Virtual Careers Engagement available at any time
  • Careers fairs are great but are only beneficial to those students willing to talk with exhibitors. Our platform is a 24/7 careers fair accessible on all devices with internet service. It engages Explorers who may not access all the information they want at a traditional careers fair.
  • The platform delivers a consistent message, directly shared with its audience.
  • Our platform inspires and engages a variety of audiences alongside traditional careers advice. This digital online career solution is the best way to engage with a generation raised on technology.

Why should my Education Establishment register? What benefits are available?
  • FREE support for your Education Establishment’s staff and students.
  • Teaching staff and careers advisers can enhance their knowledge of businesses and job roles, as well as apprenticeship opportunities and working environments.
  • Careers advisers can use registered students’ saved information about businesses or roles that interest them as a starting point for discussions.

How do I register my school or education establishment to get access to the extra benefits of being a Registered Establishment?

The platform is FREE to access for schools and other education establishments.
The platform is FREE to access for Explorers searching the platform.

There are no contracts or hidden fees. The platform is made sustainable by the businesses who pay to have a presence on the platform. Education Establishments register to be able to access the benefits, for example, support for careers events and easy access to lists of businesses offering work experience places.

  • The Careers Leader, so they have an overall understanding of who is accessing information about your school’s students
  • Additional staff, to ensure they also receive regular updates via Newsletters. Once their accounts are verified, Registered staff will see the names of all students who have appended themselves to your school
Any Registered staff can see a chart showing industry sectors your students have ‘liked’ – this means you are able to ensure your careers provision is tailored to the needs and circumstances of your students.

They showcase what is great about working for their company or in that industry sector by explaining:
  • What they do
  • Who works for them and the variety of job roles they offer
  • Why working in that company is great and how to join them
The business can also showcase the following opportunities:
  • Volunteering
  • Work Experience
  • Apprenticeships
  • Job Opportunities

Introduce your students to the three ways to explore the information: via the Galaxy, the Orbit and the Infoverse.
Encourage students to register as Explorers (once they are past 13yrs old) and they can collect Achievements whilst exploring.
As a registered Education Establishment you can access information and discuss the careers and businesses liked by students.
