My role is Payroll/HR Assistant. I provide HR support to the HR Officer and Partnership ensuring a quality and effective HR support is provided at all times. I also run the monthly payroll process ensuring that employees are paid correctly and on time.

We are local experts from a long established form who are passionate about what we do, using expertise to uncomplicated legal processes. Customer service is at the heart of everything we do.

How would you describe your job?

I am training to be a Solicitor by working within a Law Firm and going to college on day release. My Apprenticeship is for 6 years and allows me to complete the required studies to become a qualified Solicitor whilst gaining real life work experience at the same time.

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

I applied via GetMyFirstJob.com with a CV and covering letter. I then had to attend an Assessment Day where I had a number of tasks and tests to complete. I had an interview as part of the Assessment Day and proceeded through to a final interview.

What is great about your job?

It is varied, no day is ever the same and it keeps you on your feet. I get to work with such a great, experienced and supportive team and I am able to learn new things every day and progress my self development.

What training do you receive in your role?

I receive training by working closely with others in order to develop my knowledge and experience within Law practices and procedures. The training I will receive is to allow me to fully qualify as a Solicitor without going to University to do a degree.

How would you describe your job?

Being a Business Support Apprentice (myself being within Marketing) is not just a desk job. It is a desk job, an up and about job and a job that requires comon sense as well as knowledge of the Company that work for in great depth. My job includes many things from internal and external communication, running and organising events, running volunteer and in house projects, in house administration and internal processes. I also have to do business development, networking, ownership of digital projects such as app development and web development. I even cover Front of House and postal duties in times of staff absence. This list could go on. It is a busy and fast paced environment but also a lot of fun.

Was this your first job? if not, what was your first job?

I had a saturday job in a tailors and also an evening job working in a Restaurant

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

I looked online and on Apprentice websites. I found In-Comm, an Apprenticeship training provider that were advertising for a role at FBC Manby Bowdler. I gave them a call and enrolled with them. I had an interview and did a basic English and Maths test. They helped me apply for a Job and got me an interview. I attended with my CV and covering letter and the rest is history.

What is great about your job?

It is varied, no day is ever the same and it keeps you on your feet. I get to work with such a great, experienced and supportive team and I am able to learn new things every day and progress my self development.

What training do you receive in your role?

In my first year I received an NVQ training opportunity provided with the Apprenticeship. I have completed this and it would not be up to me to present any training opportunities that I may be interested in to my Manager.

What skills are required to do your job?

You need to be ICT literate, have strong organisational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrable experience of working with diverse stakeholders. You should be reliable and trustworthy and maintain confidentiality at all times. You should be able to multi-task, co-ordinate workloads and work under pressure to meet deadlines. You should have a high level of commitment and a 'can do' attitude.

How would you describe your job?

To ensure the firm is compliant within it's regulatory obligations. The duties involved are conflicted checking, data reviewing and primarily working alongside the fee earners in opening new and existing client matters. When we are taking new instructions from new or existing clients, we have to ensure we conduct a level of client due diligence and make sure the clients are who they say they are. In order to do this, we have to complete anti money laundering and sanctions checks on all our clients and complete conflict checks across the database.

I had previous jobs prior to this one.

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

The process was quite simple. After applying online I was invited to attend an interview. In the interview I was asked a mixture of standard and competency based questions and why I thought I would be good for the role. The competency questions are set out for you to give an example of a time that you have experienced something specific that could fit into the role that you are applying for.

What is great about your job?

The file opening process is always changing with every client so you feel like every case is different, and sometimes you are required to investigate a little bit further. Also, I work with a wonderful team who are always available to support you with any queries that you may have.

What training do you receive in your role?

Initially I received one on one training with an experienced member of the team. This involved me sitting with her and watching her work through different cases whilst taking notes. I then started to work on cases myself with her sitting with me so that she could provide guidance and support. This continued until I was comfortable enough to work the cases along with me only asking for support when needed.

What skills are required to do your job?

The ability to work without supervision and a good teamwork ethic are great skills to have in this role. You need to be able to show a solid understanding of compliance and risk and have logical and investigative skills.

I assist two fee earners with day to day conveyancing transactions, including administration work and some legal work. This involves issuing contracts, submitting searches, preparing for and carrying out completions and post completion work. I sometimes assist with search and mortgage reports under supervision.

Was this your first job? if not, what was your first job?

No, I had an Apprenticeship after I left college and gained experience on a legal office and on reception.

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

My previous jobs and my Apprenticeship helped me to progress to conveyancing assistant/secretary and I have been learning the job ever since. I have moved Firms since then and learnt a lot from some great people along the way. I joined FBC Manby Bowdler a year ago as a Paralegal Support

What is great about your job?

The daily client contact, you get to speak to a lot of different people and help them wherever you can.

What training do you receive in your role?

I learn alot 'on the job' from the conveyancers I work with. We also have yearly training that support staff are included on and I am studying to become a licenced conveyancer in my own time.

What skills are required to do your job?

Patience, communication skills, good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise as conveyancing is very fast paced and things become urgent very quickly.

How would you describe your job?

The role I have is very busy, varied and enjoyable.

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

I initially registered with an Agency. They submitted my CV for the vacancy within the Firm. I was asked to attend an interview where I had to give different examples of different scenarios and experiences.

What is great about your job?

It is very varied. I meet and greet clients and work with all the different Departments within the Firm. My colleagues are all friendly and if you wish to progress, the Firm will make sure you get the opportunity to do so where possible.

What training do you receive in your role?

I receive in house training which includes online compliance, front of house and IT training. I have also received external training to be a First Aider and a Fire Warden.

What skills are required to do your job?

Honesty, Integrity, a positive attitude, willing to participate, motivated. You should have the ability to take responsibility, respect others, be committed and have excellent communication.
