We currently manufacture and supply bespoke mooring chain assemblies such as chains used to connect the anchor to the boat, chains to connect swings to the frame in playgrounds and parks and pump lifting chains supplied to water companies such as Severn Trent. We also make chains used for towing vehicles and other associated chain hardware such as shackles, links and rings.

No - I was an Apprentice Compositor working for a local newspaper.

I was working as a Graphic Designer/Print Consultant and had done work for the company for a number of years and was offered a full time position.

What is great about your job?

I like working hard on a daily basis with colleagues to provide a quality service to the distributors we deal with. It is like a family with everyone pulling together in good and bad times. We always work together as a team!

No specific training but I have gathered various skills over the years which helps to do my job better.

What is great about your job?

I enjoy the fact that I have a major role in the running of a very successful business. I meet lots of interesting people and nad have travelled all over the world. William Hackett is a very relaxed and friendly environment to work in and all the employees are well looked after.

What training do you receive in your role?

Although training is available for all working practices I am basically self-taught.

I deal with Data Entry, including Sales Orders, Quotations, answering the phone and dealing with customer queries and other offices duties e.g. photocopying, filing etc. I also create some Works Orders which are used to instruct the factory workers on how to complete a job.

No, I worked as a Restaurant Assistant in Debenhams and Sainsburys before this.

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

I attended an Apprenticeship Workshop that I was invited to by Halesowen College once I had finished my college courses there.

What is great about your job?

enjoy using different parts of the computer system to complete different tasks as I feel it makes me more aware of the overall workings of the business. I think the people that work here are great, we all have strong friendships with one another which makes me feel happy to come to work and there is always a positive morale. As I started as an apprentice, I feel that I have received lots of support and guidance from the higher members of staff and they have make me feel valued here.

What training do you receive in your role?

I have received training from outside sources through my apprenticeship and have been able to complete my NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Business & Administration. I have also received telephone training which has helped me improve in that area. I also receive in house training on the different parts of our computer system.

What skills are required to do your job?

Being able to use a computer effectively is definitely required in my role as many of the tasks are completed through our computer system. I feel that you need to be very open to learning new things and broadening your knowledge on business. Also, being adaptable is a good quality as the role might change depending on how the business changes.

Yes I joined William Hackett Chains from school over 37 years ago!

What process did you have to follow to get your job?

I had an interview after being sent from a local Careers Centre.

What is great about your job?

I have worked for William Hackett for many years and I enjoy the security that this job gives me. I have had many job roles and I enjoy doing different things. I get on well with all my work mates and work within a good working environment. I like the fact that I am part of this great company and the products that I help to manufacture are used all over the world.

What training do you receive in your role?

There is training available for all the different job operations. I have had Fork Lift Truck training to enable me to drive the company Fork Lift Trucks and had various Health and Safety training to ensure that I carry out my job roles as safely as possible.

What skills are required to do your job?

When I joined William Hackett I had no skills for the jobs that I currently do. I have learnt all the skills required from on-site training and on the job experience. For me to succeed in my job I need to be punctual (to make sure that I turn up for work on time, all the time) and be conscientious (be thorough, hard-working and reliable).

What is great about your job?

I enjoy working with people and getting the best out of them. I’m lucky to work with some very good people with great experience. I think we generally have good working relationships through all levels of the organisation.

I have been on various courses to help me understand the business better and help me carry out my duties. These include a Lifting Engineering Association course and warehouse racking course. Previously I have undergone management and purchasing and supply training.

You need to be able to prioritise and manage your work load effectively. Be able to communicate effectively with all levels in the organisation, and be able to satisfy customers demands.
